Rainy Day

Monsoon season is over now, but we had a few good rains in August. One evening as I washed dishes I could see the clouds rolling in out the kitchen window, and the sound of thunder wasn’t far behind.

Rain 2

And then…rain!

Rain 1

Veronica wanted to run around in it.

Rain 3

Go home, Baby Thunder!”

We started calling it “baby” thunder because she was scared of it at first.

Rain 4

Wait…I’m getting wet!”

Rain 5

My attempt at a group shot. Someone was not cooperating. I’ll give you a hint - it wasn’t Veronica.

Rain 6

She was having a ball.

Rain 7

She was not. But she wasn’t exactly upset about it, either.

What the heck is this stuff falling from the sky???”

Rain 8

Please pretend you don’t notice the sorry state of our backyard.

Rain 9

Drips!

Rain 10

It started really coming down at one point.

Rain 11

But it didn’t phase her.

Rain 12

She just kept playing until it was time to come inside.

Rain 14

I’m all wet. Now what do I do?”

  1. Love this!!!!

You should check out THUNDER CAKE... It's a super cute story about how a grandmother helps her granddaughter chase away her fears of thunder while they make Thunder Cake, a cake recipe with tomatoes in it... We read it in my classroom each year, and some kids try to make the cake at home. They always say it's delicious!

Maybe I'll try to make it this year...

Let me know if you try it! Or I can loan you the book if you want! It's by Patricia Polacco.
