All three girls have had the same infant hair (albeit in different shades).

 

This is Veronica at about three and a half months. See how it does that sweep to the right? Her right. Your left.

 

And again at about five months. Still doing the sweep.

On another note, have you ever seen a chubbier chubbikins? I thought not.

 

Jacinta at about five months. Although a couple strands escaped downward, it still goes mostly to the right.

 

Here, at six months, you can see it is clearly sweeping.

“Mmmmmm, these fingers taste great!”

 

Which brings us to Ariadne. Or Ariad, as Veronica likes to call her.

True to form, she has the rightward sweep going on. I don’t fight it. After a bath, I just comb things they way they want to go.

But the other day I wanted to try something different. Something…radical.

 

What happens when you make right-sweeping hair go left?

A Comparison: 6 Months

I’m late posting my comparison again this month. Not that that is a surprise. I can’t believe it’s already the middle of October. Sheesh! Where is the time going? Please come back. Please? Or at least slow down a little so I can catch up.

 

We were definitely well into feedings by the time Veronica was 6 months. I think she started cereal around 5 1/2 months or so, and by this time, she was testing her first veggies.

 

Jacinta has really taken to eating cereal. She devours it! The concept of a spoon - which has to be repeatedly refilled - is a little frustrating for her. She wants the continuity of nursing, but the tastiness of cereal!

We started the cereal a little later (not because having two kids is busier or anything) and haven’t quite started veggies or fruits yet, but I’ve got some frozen and ready to go. I think she is more than ready.

 

Veronica still wins the chunky baby award, hands-down. There is just no competing with her little rolls. And the cheeks! I love the cheeks.

Jacinta has definitely put on some extra chunk since she started eating cereal though. Her hair is a little lighter than it was when she was born, and it hasn’t fallen out quite as much as Veronica’s did around the sides and back. No bald spot for Jacinta! If she’s not nursing, she’s likely to be found with her two fingers in her mouth. Two fingers can’t compare with Mommy, but they come close.

She does not like tummy time very much, but we are slowly lengthening the amount of time she will stay that way. She definitely knows what she wants (toys, the tablecloth, occasionally my keyboard), and will reach and strain for it with her whole body. She loves her big sister and often smiles or giggles at Veronica’s antics. She loves when people sing songs to her and she will join in, too!

This morning Jacinta woke up at 4:30 am (thanks) and when she was finished nursing, she decided it was time for a song. I told her to “Shhhhh!” and she proceeded to make breathy noises for the next ten minutes or so instead. “Ahhhhhhhhhh….”

We are having so much fun with both of our precious girls. And it’s fun to see them begin to have fun with each other.

A Comparison: 5 Months

I’m a little late posting this (again). Even with the holiday I just seem to be so busy! I think I need every other day off. Yeah, I’ll just go propose that plan to my boss.

Anyway, the girls. Veronica is loving on Jacinta more than ever. Yesterday Paul and I walked into the room to discover that Veronica was “helping” Jacinta go to sleep in the swing by piling all the towels from the linen cabinet on top of her. Did I say towels? I meant “blankets”. She also tried to feed Jacinta a goldfish (of the cracker variety). She just slipped it in Jacinta’s mouth like it was a mail slot. Luckily one of my co-workers caught the weird look on Jacinta’s face and we were able to extract the offending piece of food.

But Veronica really does love her sister, in spite of the sometimes inappropriate ways she expresses it. And who could blame her? Jacinta is a real cutie pie. She sometimes “sings” along with us when we are singing Veronica’s favorite songs and giggles when I tickle her. She’s our little roly poly, content to roll around until she ends up stuck on her stomach, at which point she promptly cries until I help her remedy the situation.  And then she is her happy, smiley little self again.

 

Veronica was definitely a chunkier baby. She just had rolls and rolls…and more rolls. (Please ignore my wonky eyebrow. Thanks.)

 

Jacinta…not so much. She does have a little baby chunk on her, but nothing compared to what Veronica sported. She doesn’t seem to be as voracious an eater, at least not with nursing, so we’ll have to see how she does with food.

 

Their hair is very similar in texture. By this point, Veronica’s had definitely started to lighten up. She also had a bald patch on the back of her head from where it rubbed on various baby contraptions. And of course, she had the dimples. And still does.

 

Jacinta’s hair has started to lighten a bit, too. You can definitely tell the difference between the ends of her hair and the new lighter growth coming in. But it is still brown. She also has lost some hair around the sides and back, though she hasn’t developed a bald spot. No dimples, but she does have cute little cheeks. Pinch! 

 

Every night when we put Veronica to bed, she likes to have Jacinta lie down next to her for a minute. It’s really exciting for her to have a sister, and I can’t wait until Jacinta is a little older so they can play together. Actually, yes I can - I take it back. I love this age, and I don’t want it to pass too quickly.

 

I also want Veronica to always be this sweet to her little sister.

A Comparison: 4 Months

A little late on posting this, what with vacation and all. It’s crazy that Jacinta is four months old already. She is so interactive now, she loves to smile and coo and has even been grabbing for things that she wants (like my face). I can’t wait until she and Veronica can play together more, Veronica just loves her so much. It’s sweet to see them smiling at each other.

Looking back at the pictures, Veronica was a lot chunkier than Jacinta is. Jacinta has some little rolls, but Veronica was a real chunky monkey! Just look at her:

The consensus remains that they are definitely sisters, but they each have some defining features that set them apart. Next stop, five months! it’s coming up fast.

A Comparison: 3 Months

It cracks me up that they have almost the same expression on their faces. I definitely see more of Paul in Jacinta. You can’t tell from this picture of Jacinta, but her hair is wearing off on the back and sides just like Veronica’s did – she is destined for the baby comb-over! I think Veronica may have been chunkier (and still is!), but Jacinta has her beat on length. Veronica needed a little something extra (like a box) under the Jumperoo so she could bounce at this age, but Jacinta can reach the ground just fine. Since the Jumperoo was a huge favorite of Veronica’s, I’m glad that it seems like Jacinta is going to like it as well.

 

Look at Veronica’s hair now. It really lightened up. It makes me wonder if Jacinta’s will get lighter, too. Only time will tell!

A Comparison: 2 months

It’s time again for another sister comparison! As an aside, I can’t believe Jacinta is already 2 months old. Crazy!

I think they look more different with each comparison. They both have the crazy hair, but in very different colors. Their facial features are definitely different, too. I’ll be interested to see how their weight and height compare, but we don’t have Jacinta’s next appointment until June 8th.

However alike or different they are, they are both certainly cute! I love my girls!

Definitely haven't seen any dimples on Jacinta. She's only had a couple of smiles so far though. Looking forward to seeing more!

Veronica's hair was a little longer at this point. But I think she may have started out with a little more to begin with. Jacinta is not quite as chubby as Veronica was either...though that could change pretty easily! Definitely sisters, but definitely different, too.

A Comparison: Newborn

I thought it would be fun to compare Jacinta to pictures of Veronica at the same age. So take a look. In what ways do they look alike, and in what ways are they different? Hair color is an obvious one.

Paul says Veronica's nose and mouth were wider, and I tend to agree with that assessment.

Now I can't be quite certain yet, but while Veronica has always had dimples, Jacinta doesn't seem to have them. She's had a couple of sleep smiles and so far they are absent. So we'll be paying attention to that when she starts to smile on her own.

I'll try to remember to keep doing comparisons as Jacinta gets older. It's kind of fun to see the similarities and differences between the two of them. It really is amazing to consider the possibilities when a baby is born!
